Speak Easy is (Almost) Back!
It’s true. After a 21-month hiatus, Speak Easy, Rochester Spoken Word’s monthly live reading event at Cheshire, will be back on December 12, 2021, with some exciting changes! During this time away, we’ve looked into ways to expand our audience while simultaneously giving those people who may not feel comfortable attending a live performance the opportunity to partake in the magic that is Speak Easy. To that end, starting in December, all Speak Easy shows will be streamed live and made available for watching through video-on-demand!
Our standard Speak Easy events showcase prose over poetry, but we’ve been having more and more poets sign up to read, so to meet the demand for poetry reading slots, we’ll be holding our first-ever all-poetry show in April. In June, we’ll be bringing back an old favorite with our live storytelling event, Stories Without a Net, and in January, we’ll be celebrating our 5th(!) birthday with a party and readings from our upcoming book, The Best of Rochester Spoken Word Short Story Contest 2020, read by the authors themselves.
The rest of our pre-summer schedule will be rounded out with regular Speak Easy events featuring both new-to-our-stage readers and old favorites. Check out our schedule below!
